As most of you know I competed in the U.S. Push Competition this past week in Lake Placid. Here we push a bobsled down a track that simulates the actual start of a bobsled race.
The Bobsled Federation brought in athletes who are currently on the team, those who were on the 2006 Olympic Team and 2007 World Cup and Americas Cup Push Athletes. From this competition and the Drivers (there are 5 US Sleds/Drivers) choose their teams to bring to USA Team Trials. Each Driver gets to select two Brakemen: Their first choice and an alternate.
The short of the long is I was selected by a driver as an alternate today - which means I made the 2008/2009 USA Bobsled Team.
I’m really excited about this…and my situation is especially exciting because usually, as an alternate, you don’t get to actually participate in that many races. It’s more an opportunity to train with the team and get lots of pushes in preparation for your second year. BUT - this particular driver’s first choice is ranked #3 overall and will probably move up to a higher ranked driver (this is the same girl that I tested against last time and took 2nd to). So this means I could actually go on tour this season.
Either way I’m just happy to make the team…in ANY capacity.
So THANKS to everyone who has helped and supported me - BUT mainly thank you to Renda for encouraging me to do this, unselfishly knowing that if this happened for us we would be spending lots of time apart.
From Bob Miller:
What Tracy did not tell me in her email is she came in 2nd and lost by only .01 seconds. Tracy will be returning to Lake Placid on October 2nd for more testing. I am so excited and proud of Tracy and the work she has done. I have been tough and she will tell you the same. I know what it takes to be better, to improve and ask your body to endure all the training. Tracy is a true athlete and has done all that is required to rise to the top. Tracy is still rising and I expect her to be on the US Olympic team.
